Photo Friday: Bluebird of Happiness at Mount Rainier

The weather is warming up here in Vegas, and the birds are starting to sing about it. I spent some time this morning on the patio with my coffee just listening. It made me think of the time the Bluebird of Happiness visited us at Washington's Mount Rainier National Park.

It wasn't really the Bluebird of Happiness, of course — The birdwatchers among you might tell me it wasn't even a bluebird. I don't know what this blue-colored feathered friend is called by ornithologists. All I know is that it chose my car door as a perch.

"Well, zippity do da, Mr. Blue Bird on my car door!"

We'd stopped at a scenic overlook on our way into the park. This guy was like the welcome committee, eyeing us as we took in the scene. When I opened the door to get back in the car, he apparently didn't want us to leave.

I shook the door gently to tell him we wanted to go see more of the park. But he wasn't ready yet. So we just sat quietly for a few minutes and enjoyed the fresh air.

Couldn't say how long he stayed, but it seemed like a really long visit. Long enough to remind us that this place was to be savored, and we had no reason to be in a hurry.

So no, this feathered fella wasn't the Bluebird of Happiness, but he was ours for that day. And it's not a stretch to presume that this blue-colored bird was happy anyway. Come on — Just look where it lives:
