Do You Think My Cat Has ESP?

It's Monday, February 8th, so as promised... we have a winner!

Last Wednesday I announced that AllBarStools.com had offered a prize to give away, and I collected entries to win it through yesterday. What great fun this little virtual online party turned out to be — the response was more than I expected!

So this morning I wrote down all the names of everyone who commented or tweeted the entry. Seventy-two — which by the way, rhymes with "wohoo!" — pieces of paper went into the drawing.

I put them in a cocktail glass, because that was only appropriate.

Then I raised it in a toast to everyone who participated.

Jackpot here was as anxious to find out which reader had won. He stuck a curious paw in and batted a few entries around. At first I thought this was the kind of cuteness only his owner would appreciate... until I reached in myself and drew the name.

My cat must have ESP or something — I think he knew all along who that prize was meant for: Congratulations to KITTEN WITH A WHIPLASH!

Thanks to AllBarStools.com for providing a door prize for this virtual online party, and sincerest thanks to everyone for showing up! I appreciate that you stopped by this blog. Pull up a bar stool — or any chair you find comfy — at TheWordWire anytime.

I knew a guy in college who swore cats were spies in communication with the Mother Ship. Sometimes I think he's right.

You've heard that the camera adds ten pounds? Same goes for martini glasses, I suppose. I looked all over the apartment for my hat with ear flaps for the drawing, but I think the glass worked just fine. Have a great day!

Sometimes, I think my cat's also eerily clever... no wonder there are so many people who are leery of felines.

Anyway, congrats to Kitten with a Whiplash! (What a name!)

And, of course - and on a different topic - congrats to the freakin' New Orleans Saints! Oh, Wordy, you should've been in the Quarter last night - it was incredible! More crowded than I'd ever seen it - and for the most part, everyone was elated!

I cannot imagine how much fun it was to be anywhere in New Orleans last night -- like New Year's Eve and Mardi Gras rolled into one... and then multiplied by the square root of "Who Dat," I would guess. I'm sure you collected lots of stories during the celebration. Can't wait to read your thoughts about it in a post.

I'm so ungruntled. After all the time and effort, I didn't win anything. By the way... Didn't I see you and that cat working a Three-Card Monty scam on Las Vegas Boulevard?

Hmm.... Sorry. You must be thinking of some other cool cat and her four-legged sidekick. Thanks for playing though!

Ha! Thank you Wholly Jeanne! Another factor in the photo is that Jackpot is actually huge. He's earned many nicknames around this house related to his size... Snackpot... Jackopotamous... Porkpot... Also known as Jackrobat for his wall climbing abilities, and Crackpot because he sometimes meows like Jon Stewart's impersonation of Dick Cheney.
