Like Castle Rock

Castle Crags State Park

Lakehead, California

Deep breath in. Deep breath out.

That's how this image affects me. In the foreground is CASTLE CRAGS, a rocky outcrop in Northern California's Klamath mountain range. In the background is Mount Shasta, famed landmark of the Cascades.

I share it today for Theme Thursday, which is a website that invites bloggers to post articles about a weekly theme. Today's topic is CASTLES, and I find this California State Park more inspirational right now than the kind of fairy tale castles of daydreams.

Mountains make people feel peaceful and offer perspective. They represent stability and strength. In my own life for too long now, I've been more like a fragile sand castle than Castle Rock. I hope, like me, you draw inspiration from this photo. When life hits you with unexpected obstacles, look to the mountains as a reminder: You are strong like a rock.

Me too sometimes. Although, ironically, I've seen more of it since I've lived in Nevada than I did when I actually lived there.

Not weird at all -- whatever works for you. For example, the view from an auto accessible overlook, to me, is peaceful. The view that requires strenuous climbing... we'll I've never seen one of those.

The thing I love about mountains is that they seem so permanent, strong and grand. But really they are earth that is constantly breaking, growing, and changing and alive. I love this picture and can almost feel the wind at my back and the ache in my legs as I'm headed for the summit.

Good point. That fact makes them somehow even more alluring.

When the picture of Castle Crags flipped up as I entered your blog, I couldn't believe it! I live about a half hour south of there in Redding. It is a beautifl, strong place to visit. Your photo shows two jewels of our area, Castle Crags and Mt. Shast.

    Loved this post.

Well you certainly live in a BEAUTIFUL area! I haven't explored as much of Northern Cali as I'd like, but it makes me want to hit the road to think about it! Thanks for your comment.

I think there's a "Castle" Rock or Crag in every country. Yours is particularly imposing and beautiful. At least these castles are accessible to us humble peasants.

Nice twist to the castle theme. I need to get up to Mt. Shasta one of these days. Hard to believe I haven't been there yet!
