Going Steady For Six Months
I don't know about you, but I find it so cutesy it's annoying when people celebrate anniversaries in increments of months. Unless, of course, it's mine. As in business, I recapped The Journey So Far at the end of June. TheWordWire has now been going steady for six months, so I thought I'd mark the occasion of another passing quarter with an updated post.

![]() | Wanderlust Sunday: Dreams So Real This list of real places that seem like fantasy knocked my Dream Guy out of the top spot. That's OK. I think even he would agree — these places are special, and should be seen.
| Mapping Main Street Las Vegas I took a walking tour of downtown Las Vegas inspired by the collaborative documentary project Mapping Main Street. The project is a closer look at the idea of Main Street America, and features an interesting collection of photos and perspectives — Well worth checking out. | |
![]() | View of the Forest: How Do You Navigate the Trees? This is a thank you note to a friend who always helps me see the forest for the trees. I'm not surprised to see that readers can relate to the feeling of being blinded by the trees. But no matter what gets in our way, we always eventually see the forest.
![]() | The Telltale Comfortable Shoe This quick lesson from the streets of San Francisco drew interest from many other places. I guess it is a critical life skill to recognize the telltale sign of the comfortable shoe.
![]() | Have You Seen Old Gnarly Bob? An unmailed postcard from the New Orleans French Quarter turned out to reach a lot of places. I should put a stamp on it and send it to the place it was written. Maybe someone there knows a story about Old Gnarly Bob.
![]() | Taste Like Ya Mama's: A Marketer's Dilemma I knew I wasn't the only one who thought this was funny, and the number of Internet users searching these two business taglines proves it.
![]() | Who Wants To Know if They're A Cougar? The most frequently searched phrase that lands Googlers on TheWordWire is some form of the question, "How do I know if I'm a Cougar?" The Original Article that inspired a further look into this question narrowly missed the top ten. Could-be cougars are now clicking on this one instead.
![]() | Wanderlust Sunday: Down With Tunnel-Vision This article is about perspective... How sometimes you have to look at things from the air to see them at all. This list is of things you have to seek higher ground to appreciate. I'm glad readers also like the view from above.
![]() | Stop Messing with Lord Focko's People, People Lord Focko is the namesake of a tiny Austrian town. It would be a quiet place if not for the English speaking tourists acting out and stealing municipal signs. I know TheWordWire readers are much better behaved. Still, it's always fun to get a little lost in translation.
![]() | Two Blue Ball, Pennsylvanias and Other Places to Get a Newspaper Curiously, no one comes across this article because, like me, they're obsessed with small town newspapers. Visitors are pained to know about the origins of Blue Ball, Pennsylvania. I asked a friend from Harrisburg if she could shed some light. She writes...
Intercourse, naturally, is in Amish country.
| So, Where Are The Curious Cats Anyway? Habitats of the Could-Be Cougar |
I mentioned that many people have landed on TheWordWire because they're wondering how to tell whether or not they're cougars. Curious. By a margin of nearly four to one, the natural habitat of these info seekers is CALIFORNIA, USA. They prowl the Internet primarily from cities along the coast, not in the mountain regions as you might expect. But California isn't the only place the curious Could-Be Cougars live. Most inhabit the United States, but the question has drawn visitors from nearly every continent. AFRICA
ASIA
AUSTRALIA/OCEANA
NORTH AMERICA *List limited to regions with multiple inquiries
SOUTH AMERICA
So maybe this little infographic isn't as interesting to you as it is to me, but if you're wondering whether or not you're a cougar, I thought you'd like to know. You are not alone. |

Happy Anniversary! What is the appropriate gift for such an occasion? How about a virtual high-five? I think that may look something like this:
011000110110111101101110011001110111001001100001011101000111010101101100011000010111010001101001011011110110111001110011
That's binary for congratulations, and yes there's a website to do that. The internet is a better place because the wordwire is here. Thanks for sharing your voice.

That's binary for Thank You with three exclamation points.
Cool! I love learning new languages!
