Hang Ten From San Diego

"The important thing to evaluate is when and where to surf." 

That's what I heard the instructor say to a bunch of kids in wetsuits, lined up on the beach I walked along this morning. They had been practicing balance in the sand and were ready to get in the water. It's summer camp, San Diego style. 

When and where to surf. I didn't linger to hear the answer, though I figured it was wisdom that could be applied to any facet of life. When to go with the flow, when to dive in. I started a mental list as if you need that kind of advice from me. 

Then I watched the news, and one answer seemed so simple: Surf when it's for a good cause.
